Q&A: Sharing about a Strategic Planning Process

Impactful strategic planning is a community effort, not a leadership activity, so transparency should be built into every step of your strategic planning process

One of your first activities when preparing to plan should be to develop a communications strategy that answers the following for each of your key stakeholder groups:

  • At which planning stage would we like to involve this group?

  • How will we inform them about the process, plan, and outcomes?

  • How will we get input from them?

More specifically, you may want to plan for sharing

  • Information about the steps in your planning process

  • How your team and stakeholders will be asked to engage or offer input

  • An initial draft plan for stakeholder feedback

  • The final draft of your plan

  • Periodic updates on progress towards goal attainment.

You don’t have to lead alone.
