Q&A: Abstract Deliverables

Q&A: Abstract Deliverables

How do we handle projects that start with abstract outcomes?

Many projects in mission-driven organizations start with abstract outcomes, requiring us to explore or research an idea before we can even define our ultimate deliverables.

In these projects, it’s critical to clearly define a project scope to provide purpose and direction during this exploratory phase.

We should also set concrete deliverables or outcomes and a deadline for our exploratory phase to avoid stalling the project.

These initial deliverables could be a report on our research or the results of our explorations, but should definitely include the clear definition of our other project outcomes - we want deliverables that will help move the rest of the project forward.
